You can earn a technology certificate — without being a tech major

The Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering’s Department of Computer Science offers a Baccalaureate Certificate in the Fundamentals of Computing. This resume-boosting certificate is open to working professionals and all VCU undergraduates who are non-computer science majors.

Earn this certificate by completing just four online courses:

CSMC 210: Computers and Programming (30 credit hours NOT required to enroll in this course. Get started right away.)*

CSMC 320: Software Engineering and Web Development

CSMC 330: Data Science Skills*

CSMC 340: Cybersecurity Skills*

To pursue a certificate in Fundamentals of Computing, current VCU students must:

  • Meet the admissions requirements listed in the bulletin (30 credit hours not required to enroll in CMSC 210)
  • Submit Change of Major form with “Fundamentals of Computing” as your secondary major
  • Register through eServices

To enroll without pursuing the certificate, simply register through eServices.
