RamHacks 2020

Virginia Commonwealth University’s biggest hackathon is going virtual for 2020. RamHacks, a 24-hour computer design and programming sprint, hosted by the College of Engineering’s Computer Science department, will take place online Sept. 26-27.

Participants may join from anywhere in the United States. Learn more and/or register.

“RamHacks is the biggest and most renowned hackathon at VCU, and has attracted ever-growing participation every year. By going virtual, we are expecting participants from all across the U.S. RamHacks is not only about the coding and challenges but also having fun playing video games, learning from tech talks and connecting with potential employers,” said Alberto Cano, Ph.D., assistant professor of computer science at the VCU College of Engineering and faculty adviser to RamHacks.

Now in its seventh year, RamHacks gives students a chance to design and build an innovative new technology together. This year’s hackathon will be conducted on a state-of-the-art virtual workspace with live sessions for challenges, tech talks and other activities. Students will be able to chat and interact with other participants, mentors and sponsors throughout the event.

It’s also an opportunity for technology-driven companies to engage with students — and recruit the next generation of highly skilled workers. Sponsors provide specific themes and challenges, and competitors take them on. More than $9,000 in prize money, as well as the latest in cool technology, will be awarded to winning teams.

Attendees must be enrolled in a college or university. Students can build their own teams of up to four members or join a team when they arrive. Cross-university collaborations are encouraged.
