Michael Berger, a doctoral student majoring in biomedical engineering, won first place for his poster at the International Symposium on Clusters and Nanomaterials (ISCAN).

Awards sponsored by journal ACS Energy Letters were given at the conference hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University on Nov. 3-7, 2019. The multidisciplinary conference, a continuation of the quadrennial Richmond Conference series that started in 1982, focused on how clusters and nanomaterials can play a role in solving outstanding problems in energy and medicine.

Berger’s faculty advisers are Zvi Schwartz, D.M.D., Ph.D., and Barbara D. Boyan, Ph.D.

“ISCAN is such an amazing conference because it is truly interdisciplinary,” Berger said. “It was great to network with the leading researchers in the fields of nanotechnology and nanomaterials who are tackling complex issues like energy and human health.”
