VCU Engineering’s nuclear engineering graduate program is ranked no. 24 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. VCU is the only university in Virginia with an accredited undergraduate nuclear engineering major concentration, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. programs in mechanical and nuclear engineering. VCU Engineering also offers the country’s only hybrid doctorate in mechanical and nuclear engineering.

"We are very proud to have brought nuclear engineering education back to Virginia, where 40 percent of our electricity comes from nuclear reactors and where nuclear-powered aircraft carriers are manufactured. Graduates of our programs are in high demand and our partnerships with Virginia nuclear industries continue to expand," said Gary C. Tepper, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering.

VCU now has graduate programs ranked in the top 50 in 19 fields, according to the publication. Those with updated top 50 rankings in this year’s edition include the School of Education (No. 26), the School of Social Work (No. 30), the School of Nursing (Master's, No. 41; Doctor of Nursing Practice, No. 48), and the L.
