Capstone 2019 Highlight: Anthem Operation Dashboard

The electronic claims platform at Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield processes tens of thousands of insurance claims per month — without the benefit of an effective monitoring system. To improve the performance of Anthem’s claims process, this Capstone Design team is building an operation dashboard that monitors run times and helps identify abnormalities.
The students pulled monthly data from the last two years’ process data flow and designed a machine learning algorithm to predict the average run time for each procedure or job code. If a run time falls above or below the standard deviation for a given task, the claim is flagged. The new dashboard will provide reliable, real-time data to the professionals who oversee Anthem’s process data flow. It’s also device-responsive (PC- and mobile/tablet-friendly) so employees can monitor procedures from anywhere.
The front-end user interface is built in AngularJS, with MongoDB as the back-end database. They have also created a RESTful Python API which passes data between the front and back ends. The full stack application has been deployed on an Amazon Web Services EC2 instance, which is easily accessible, safe and incorporates many of the benefits of cloud based application development.
Capstone Expo visitors will have a chance to not only view the application live, but will also be able to interact with it on their own phones or tablets.
