Supathorn Phongikaroon, Ph.D.

It is my honor and pleasure to welcome you to the Nuclear Engineering Program at the Virginia Commonwealth University.  Our core courses are taught by highly skilled and talented individuals dedicated to each and every student. Their breadth of expertise includes plasma physics for space exploration, nano-radioisotope for medical applications, neutron transports, thermal fluid science and molten salt chemistry for advanced reactor and nuclear fuel cycle, and nuclear safeguards for protecting our future safe and clean energy. The impact of our work is not only recognized regionally and nationally, but internationally as well.  We are committed to creating and embracing a diverse and inclusive departmental culture that welcomes, values, and cherishes all members of our community. Through the success of our students, coupled with top-notch faculty and staff, our graduate program is now ranked 18th by the U.S. News & World Report for 2020-2021.

As you get to know our academic program, you will find yourself in a nurturing yet academically rigorous environment.  Given the current challenge of COVID-19, we strive to provide committed research, teaching and learning experiences for our students through hybrid/synchronous and online courses.  These methods offer unparalleled interaction to our students as we aim to provide a full college experience for all.

I encourage you to explore our website for more information about all that our Nuclear Engineering program has to offer.  Our faculty and staff are always available to answer any questions you may have as well as scheduling a visit and tour of our facility.
