Computer Science (CS) at VCU

Start your journey to success with the help of experienced faculty from the Department of Computer Science. From the first year of your undergraduate program you can:

  • Investigate digital forensics and security in the Security and Forensics Engineering (SAFE) lab
  • Mine data for biology and medical implementations a biomedical or bioinformatics lab
  • Focus on theoretical and applied research in computational intelligence algorithms, like artificial neural networks and fuzzy logic systems
  • Engage in cross-disciplinary learning through other colleges, like computer gaming courses with the VCU School of Arts

Apply theoretical knowledge from lectures in practical, real-world lab environments like:

  • Advanced graphics processing unit servers
  • Augmented reality and virtual reality equipment
  • Stationary and mobile robotic platforms
  • The Commonwealth Center for Advanced Computing

Beyond the classroom

Centered in the heart of Richmond, Virginia (often referred to as RVA), college life at VCU is completely different from a more isolated, traditional campus experience. There’s so much to do, and RVA isn’t just any city. It’s got character. A state capital with an unlikely mix of qualities — historic, artsy, food-obsessed, Southern, diverse, laid-back — it has just the right dose of grittiness to give it an edge.
