The undergraduate curriculum, within the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering (MNE), gives equal importance to lab and classroom education. To serve this purpose, our department has dedicated, world-class teaching spaces that educate, train and help students relate theory with practice through laboratory sessions.
College of Engineering Teaching & Research Centers
The VCU College of Engineering Makerspaces encompass Maker Garage, the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Innovation Lab, and Maker Studio (Engineering Research Building, ERB). These facilities provide students, staff, and faculty with state-of-the-art advanced additive and subtractive manufacturing capabilities such as design, fabrication, prototyping, and testing.
Nanomaterials Core Characterization Facility (NCC) is a research core facility of the Office of Research. NCC is located at the Institute for Engineering and Medicine and allows access to sophisticated materials characterization equipment and analytical services unique to the mid-Atlantic region.
Virginia Microelectronics Center (VMC) provides technical support for research efforts that make their way into numerous application spaces. The VMC includes more than 8,000 square feet of Class-100 and Class-1000 cleanroom space and a suite of micro- and nano-fabrication state-of-the-art tools.
Students within the College of Engineering have access to computer labs conveniently located in both the East and West Hall Engineering buildings. These labs offer a highly integrated environment where students conduct engineering course-related instructional work on desktop computers.
