Capstone (senior design)
As a prerequisite to attaining a bachelor’s degree, Capstone presents each student with the challenge of working in a team to tackle actual engineering problems within and across all engineering disciplines. Teams learn real-world skills and apply the engineering design process during a two-semester course – culminating with student teams presenting their work to industry sponsors, faculty, students and guests.
Cardinal Education
Cardinal Education, formerly known as the Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program (CGEP), is a collaborative effort among six participating universities and institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. It utilizes virtual learning classrooms and education technology in synchronous and asynchronous formats to provide working engineers the opportunity to earn a master's degree in engineering from any of the six participating universities/institutions.
Internship & Career Fair
Every fall and spring semester, the College of Engineering hosts an Internship & Career Fair. This two-day event gives students the opportunity to make meaningful connections with future employers as well as participate in an interview day. This event brings employers on campus to conduct interviews for internships and potential employment.
Makerspaces
The Makerspaces provide students, faculty and staff with state-of-the-art advanced additive and subtractive manufacturing capabilities such as design, fabrication, prototyping and testing. We provide exemplary knowledge and resources in a hands-on learning environment to encouraging student collaboration while fostering practical creativity.
MegaHack at VCU
MegaHack is a 24-hour sprint of intense innovation and problem-solving for innovative developers and makers to meet challenges provided by our sponsors. Participants address challenges through teamwork, solution ideation, programming, rapid prototyping, developing flow processes and more. Participants may work in teams of up to four members, and cross-disciplinary teams are highly encouraged.
Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP)
Vertically Integrated Projects provide undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in course-based, multiyear, multidisciplinary, team-based projects under the guidance of faculty and graduate students. These projects are in the faculty areas of expertise, with the main criterion for participation being that of mutual interest.
