Día de Ciencias aims to foster an engaging environment where students, educators, and the community can come together to explore the wonders of science and its applications. By organizing hands-on experiments, interactive exhibits, and discussions, we hope to inspire curiosity and promote the value of science education among participants of all ages, with a particular focus on Hispanic high school students.

Event Overview

  • Date & Time: March 29, 2025 | 7:30 AM - 3:50 PM
  • Location: VCU Engineering Research Building (ERB), West Hall, East Hall
  • Purpose: STEM outreach event aimed at inspiring students—particularly from underrepresented communities—by engaging them in hands-on activities, panel discussions, and networking with professionals.
  • Confirmed Attendance: 100+ students (Huguenot High School has confirmed 80 students)
  • Sponsors & Contributions:
    • Bank of America is generously providing lunch and event merchandise for students.
    • VCU is providing goody bags, which will be distributed to students during the event.

Event Schedule

  • 7:30 – 8 AM: Student Arrival & Registration (Breakfast: Chick-fil-A provided by SHPE)
  • 8 – 8:20 AM: Welcome Presentation
  • 8:20 – 9:10 AM: Dr. Mossi Lecture
  • 9:10 – 9:30 AM: Travel to East Hall
  • 9:30 – 10:20 AM: Rotation 1 – Lean Lego Airplane Activity
  • 10:30 – 11:20 AM: Rotation 2 – Programmable Robots Activity (Code VA)
  • 11:30 AM – 12:20 PM: Rotation 3 – Hands-on Building Activity 
  • 12:30 – 1:20 PM: Lunch (Provided by Bank of America – Boxed lunches)
  • 1:30 – 2:20 PM: VCU Student Org Showcase
  • 2:30 – 3:20 PM: Picture at Rams Horn / Tour of Commons
  • 3:30 – 4:00 PM: Closing Remarks (Maymont/West Hall)
