Cost to Attend

Tuition and fees are billed on a semesterly basis. Your specific costs are determined by the number of credit hours you enroll in and your residency status (in-state or out-of-state). Out-of-state and international students entering an engineering or computer science master’s program receive competitive tuition rates as part of the Graduate Education Innovation Program (GEIP). Students enrolled as nondegree-seeking are not eligible for GEIP rates.

Estimate your costs now! Use the cost calculator and watch our Making Sense of Tuition & Fees video for more tips. For additional help, contact Student Accounting at stuacctg@vcu.edu or (804) 828-2228.

Estimate your tuition and fees

Estimate the cost to attend using the VCU cost calculator. Tuition and fees vary based on a student’s residency status with the state of Virginia.

Master’s degree

All Engineering master's degrees are 30 credits. Master's students have the flexibility to switch between full-time and part-time enrollment each semester. International students on a visa can apply for a Reduced Course Load (RCL) to study part-time during their final semester. Explore the examples to help determine your best path.

For students in a B.S. to M.S. accelerated pathway, the graduate course credit you are approved to double-count for the master's degree can be deducted from the examples below.

  • Full-time (9-15 credits): Charged a flat rate.
  • Part-time (8 or fewer credits): Billed by the credit hour.

Doctoral degree

Full-time doctoral students receive first priority for fully-funded graduate assistantships, while part-time doctoral and master’s students typically self-fund their studies. If interested in part-time doctoral studies, contact the respective graduate program director to express your interest and use the cost calculator to estimate your costs.
