Renowned innovation executive Dr. Oscar Martin to deliver commencement speech at VCU Engineering graduation

Martin is a distinguished VCU alumnus, successful business executive and a respected thought leader in innovation and technology.

RICHMOND, Va., (May 8, 2023) - The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) College of Engineering today announced Oscar Martin, Ph.D. as keynote speaker for its commencement ceremony on May 12, 2023 at the Altria Theater. Martin is a distinguished VCU alumnus, successful business executive and a respected thought leader in innovation and technology.

Martin earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from VCU in 2009 and has become a respected industry leader with over 20 years of experience at some of the world's leading industrial corporations. He currently serves as Senior Vice President for Global Innovation at TekniPlex, Inc., where he is responsible for global R&D and new product development. His work has resulted in five international patents in his name and the development and commercialization of over 200 new products for consumer, medical, industrial and military applications.

"His achievements in the industry and dedication to the next generation of STEM professionals make him an ideal choice to inspire our graduates as they embark on their own careers."

Martin's extensive experience in leadership positions at DuPont and Klockner Pentaplast GmbH, along with his passion for mentoring and developing the next generation of STEM professionals, will undoubtedly inspire the VCU engineering graduates as they take on the challenges and opportunities of their careers.

"VCU provided me with a strong foundation for my career, and I am honored to return as the commencement speaker," said Martin. "I hope to inspire these graduates to use their skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on the world."

Martin's address will take place during the VCU College of Engineering's commencement ceremony at the Altria Theater on May 12, 2023 at 6 p.m.
