Honors Program and Combined Degrees

Admission to the VCU Honors College is available for students meeting specific SAT/ACT and GPA criteria. Many students admitted to programs in the College of Engineering join The Honors College and graduate with university honors.

An opportunity for dual admission to both the B.S. program and specific graduate programs — M.B.A., M.D. and D.D.S. are the most common for engineering students — is possible through The Honors College’s Guaranteed Admission Programs.

Combined degrees

Many engineering and computer science majors pursue dual degrees, minors or combined B.S./M.S. programs. Engineering students pursue a dual degree or minor in physics, chemistry or mathematics, while computer science students are encouraged to pursue a minor in an area of interest to complement their computer science skills.

There is an established program that enables students to complete the B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science in five years. For an outline of this program, refer to the Undergraduate Bulletin.

The Master of Science in Computer and Information Systems Security, jointly offered by the departments of Computer Science (College of Engineering) and Information Systems (School of Business), is targeted to those who have either accepted or are keen to take on the challenge of protecting information resources of firms and society at large. Graduates of this program are expected to take on leadership positions in computer and information systems security in organizations.
