Computer science faculty member wins award for collaborative project with appliance manufacturer Hamilton Beach

Alberto Cano, Ph.D., associate professor of computer science, worked with the appliance manufacturer to develop and implement a business intelligence service on the Microsoft Azure cloud. The software helps Hamilton Beach monitor product sales on the web.

VCU Engineering, Hamilton Beach, Synergy Technical and Microsoft were recently presented with the Outstanding Collaboration award from the Richmond Technology Council. 

Alberto Cano, Ph.D., associate professor of computer science, worked with the appliance manufacturer to develop and implement a business intelligence service on the Microsoft Azure cloud. The software helps Hamilton Beach monitor product sales on the web.

“Working with private-sector companies to build essential technology infrastructure is a wonderful opportunity for innovation,” said Cano. “This project was our initial collaboration with Hamilton Beach. Since then, several other projects have embarked with the company, also providing students with valuable industry experience.”

At the award ceremony, Gary Tepper, Ph.D., VCU Engineering interim dean, accepted the  Outstanding Collaboration award on behalf of the college of engineering.
