Electrical and computer engineering chair co-edits book on medical applications of antenna and sensor technologies

Erdem Topsakal, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is co-editor of “Antenna and Sensor Technologies in Modern Medical Applications,” a textbook published by Wiley.

Topsakal’s collaborator on this book is Yahya Rahmat-Samii, Ph.D., N.A.E., a distinguished professor and the Northrop-Grumman Chair in electromagnetics in the electrical engineering department at University of California, Los Angeles.

The book presents a comprehensive review of the theoretical background, design and latest developments in the burgeoning field of wireless medical antennas and sensors. It covers topics such as implantable medical sensors, wearables and sensor-integrated clothing, wireless applications for in-vitro and in-vivo testing, as well as 2D- and 3D-printing of antennas and sensors. Also included is an annotated list of the most comprehensive and important references in the field.

“A total of 45 experts from around the world contributed to this one-of-a-kind edited book. Professor Rahmat-Samii and I hope it will serve the scientific, engineering and medical communities for many years to come,” Topsakal said.
