Alberto Cano, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Computer Science, has been honored as an IEEE Access Outstanding Associate Editor for 2020.

IEEE Access is an award-winning, all-electronic archival journal that presents the results of original research or development across all of IEEE’s subfields, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary content.

This is the second consecutive year Cano has been named an outstanding associate editor of the journal. To receive this recognition, an individual must be among the top 3 percent of IEEE Access associate editors based on the number of articles managed.

Associate editors are responsible for finding qualified reviewers for each proposed article and ensuring that each author receives comprehensive, coherent feedback. In 2020, Cano handled 75 articles for the publication.

“IEEE Access has quickly grown into a multidisciplinary, open-access, applications-oriented journal publishing research across all of IEEE’s fields of interest,” Cano said.

Cano directs VCU Engineering’s High-Performance Data Mining Lab. His research is focused on machine learning, data mining, evolutionary computation, general-purpose computing on graphics processing units and distributed computing.
