A computer science and electrical engineering student team from the VCU School of Engineering is advancing to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Finals in the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. VCU's team competed with 33 others for eight slots in the Regional Finals in the nation’s biggest student cyber defense competition.

Teams competed in a simulated business environment where they had to run systems, support ongoing projects, assist users with their devices — and secure all IT in the face of constant external security threats. Scores were based on the team’s ability to ward off threats while keeping services running as long as possible.

Competing in the Regional Finals on March 15-17, 2018, at Johns Hopkins University, are computer science majors Reid Barden, Jonathon Headley, Seth Jansen, Yadunandan Pillai, Tobias Schneider and Peter Tran, and electrical engineering major Jonathan Lundquist. The team captain is computer engineering major Erwin Karincic, with computer science majors Paul Hudgins and Darren Chan participating as alternates.
